“My art constantly seeks to transcend the figure. I work primarily in charcoal, oil paint, and soft pastels. Each piece begins by building a dialogue with the model. I lay in line and form while simultaneously wiping it out...a constant back and forth. During the process, l'm asking myself what about this particular pose draws me; what moment in the gesture commands my attention? Is it a knee or the beautiful line of a hip? Can I riff off this pose and go deeper with my interpretation?
In the end, left are the profound and felt moments of the process. Those moments which are only possible to capture when I start to dwell in the space beyond what is merely seen.”
